Summer and fall are great times to indulge in locally-grown food.

Below is a list of Maine farms where you can pick your own berries and apples; a family-friendly activity that fosters an even deeper connection to your food. And picking your own fruit is a perfect way to get large amounts for canning and preserving. Before heading out, always be sure to call ahead to check the farm’s hours of operation and crop availability.

About Integrated Pest Management: This natural method seeks to prevent pests by managing their ecosystem. The technical definition is as follows: “The careful consideration of all available pest control techniques and subsequent integration of appropriate measures that discourage the development of pest populations and keep pesticides and other interventions to levels that are economically justified and reduce or minimize risks to human health and the environment. IPM emphasizes the growth of a healthy crop with the least possible disruption to agro-ecosystems and encourages natural pest control mechanisms.” (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations)

This list is up-to-date as of May 2024. Please let us know in the comments section if there are any orchards you would like to see added!
